It will be up to voters to reverse city hall chaos
Where does Hamtramck go from here?
That’s a question we’re sure a number of folks in town are wondering after witnessing that horrific debacle of a city council meeting last week.
The five-hour meeting was filled with squabbling, shouting, interruptions, and other such displays of behavior that most parents would find appalling if their children acted like that.
Worse, national right-wing podcasters are using snippets of that meeting to support why they think only native-born and English-speaking persons should be elected to office.
Congratulations, city councilmembers. You’ve made Hamtramck look like a disgrace -- as well as a laughingstock.
And the mayor is tainted amid all this, too. He lost control of the meeting from the get-go, and right now it’s not looking like he will ever gain control back – if he ever really had it in the first place.
So, where does the city go from here?
Even if there were a concrete plan going forward, at this point we suspect that it would likely get sabotaged.
It’s up to all of us to hold our local elected officials accountable. And by that, we mean during the elections.
So, buckle up, residents. It’s up to you to regain control of our city.
