breaking news … Schools to close for three weeks

Update: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all kindergarten through 12th grade schools – which includes Hamtramck — to close for the next three weeks to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
Schools will reopen on April 6.
However, Hamtramck Public Schools had scheduled for spring break to start on April 6-13.
So far, there have been three cases of coronavirus in Michigan.

The following message by Hamtramck Public Schools Superintendent Jaleelah Ahmed was shared on social media:

The Hamtramck Public School District is closing school on Friday, March 13, to ensure that we can adequately prepare for the unknown surrounding COVID-19, and to have a contingency planning day for at-home learning.
Our goal is to provide staff an opportunity to prepare for a possible long-term district closure. School will resume on Monday, March 16 — unless otherwise stated.
Recognizing that two presumptive positive cases of Coronavirus is in our state, our district is moving forward with providing all staff with a day of Professional Development.
The custodial staff will do a deep cleaning of all our buildings tomorrow. Students are not to report to their school(s) tomorrow, Friday, March 13.
