The city recorded its first homicide of the year.
On Saturday (April 24) around 4 p.m., gunshots were heard in the area of Conant and Commor.
When officers arrived, they found a man, who had already died from gunshot wounds.
According to one witness who contacted The Review, the body was found on the sidewalk.
The police department is declining to release the name of the victim, citing privacy concerns. The Review has subsequently filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the man’s name.
According to Police Chief Anne Moise, witnesses saw a suspect flee from the area in a light-colored vehicle.
Detectives have been working on the case since Saturday, and according to one source, they are “actively following leads.”
There was speculation in the community, via social media, on whether this shooting was related to the shooting of two men the day before, on Friday, on Hasse St. in the Detroit neighborhood just east of Jayne Park, which neighbors Hamtramck.
One of the two men died in that shooting.
Some witnesses to the Hamtramck shooting were saying that it was a drive-by. Multiple bullet casings were found next to the body, including from at least one round that went through a nearby store window.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hamtramck Police Department at (313) 800-5281.
Anyone with information about the Detroit shootings can call the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (313) 596-2260, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
