Housing director served our community well

Recently, the longtime director of Hamtramck’s Housing Commission, Kevin Kondrat, retired.
Mr. Kondrat took over the job after a tumultuous era before him, and managed to turnaround a difficult situation. Under his leadership, the commission, which oversees operations at the Senior Plaza and the Col. Hamtramck apartments, has officially been designated as a top performer year after year.
That’s high praise from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which oversees all housing commissions.
Mr. Kondrat never sought the spotlight or praise, both of which he deserves.
Prior to being appointed to the commission, he was in the private sector, and started his career with the Hamtramck Police Department where he rose to be the head of the detective bureau.
That’s an impressive work history, and obviously he has a deep dedication to the City of Hamtramck.
We wish his successor, Chris Cornwell, who has been with the commission for a number of years, similar success. He’s got some pretty big shoes to fill, as the saying goes, but we are confident he will carry on the work legacy of Mr. Kondrat.
We wish Mr. Kondrat a restful and joyful retirement, which he so richly deserves.
Thank you for your service.
